Bulldog Swimming & Diving Dominates Caltech in Opening SCIAC Meet

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams jumped into Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action with today's showdown against Caltech at the Thompson Aquatic Center.   With impressive depth, the Bulldogs dominated the Beavers by solid scores, with the women winning 176-30 and the men taking the victory by a score of 146-75.  The Maroon and Gray teams combined for 20 event-wins in an impressive showing.

Freshman Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) impressed on the diving board with a first-place effort in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 233.10.  She led off a Bulldog sweep of all standings in that event.

Freshman Courtney Gray (Yucaipa, CA) fired off a time of 11:36.16 in the 1000 Freestyle to win the event for the Bulldogs, while senior Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) uncorked a time of 1:58.45 to take first in the 200 Free.  Jaques went on to win the 100 Butterfly (59.82) with the only sub-minute time.

Junior Emily Waddell (Bellevue, WA) landed on the top of the podium in the 50 Free with a time of 24.85 before firing off a winning time of 54.40 in the 100 Free.

Senior Cassidy Cramton (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) took care of business in the 500 Free with a first-place time of 5:36.46, before senior Jessica Rivers (Renton, WA) touched the wall first in the 200 Breast with in 1:10.67.

The Bulldog relays also dominated the competition by winning all four races.

For the men, senior Eric Bugna (Vancouver, WSA) led the charge in the 1000 Free by taking first with a time of 10:26.77, while junior Brian Wright (Kent, WA) out-touched the competition in the 200 Free (1:47.45) and 500 Free (5:03.13).

On the one-meter board, freshman Jacob Miner (Antioch, CA) led off a sweeping performance with a first-place score of 275.40.

Redlands heads to the SOKA Invitational on Saturday, November 12, at 10 a.m.
