Redlands Swimming & Diving Remains in Top Three at SCIAC Championships

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams competed in day two of the 2016 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships at SPLASH! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center.  At the midway point of the meet, the Bulldog men now sit in third place with 209 points, while the women hold down the third-place slot with 249 points.

The Maroon and Gray's top finish of the day came in the 200 Individual Medley, as junior Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) fired off a second-place time of 2:07.17 to collect All-SCIAC honors.  On the men's side, freshman Zack Amendola (Palos Heights, IL) added a third-place finish in the same event, clocking in at 1:53.16 and earning All-Conference recognition.

In addition, Redlands gained integral points from sophomore Claire Stuhr (Portland, OR), who finished ninth in 2:12.91, and sophomore Rachel Haney (Redmond, OR), who took fifth in the "B" final with a time of 2:14.33.  For the men, junior Eric Bugna (Vancouver, WA) took ninth with his time of 1:57.81, while sophomore Brian Wright (Kent, WA) registered a fourth-place time of 1:56.93 in the "B" final of the 200 IM.

The Bulldogs racked up points in the 50 Free "B" Final, as three swimmers finished among the top four.  Senior Lauren Robeznieks (Tigard, OR) led the pack with her second-place time of 24.71, which was closely followed by junior Jessica Rivers (Renton, WA) and sophomore Emily Waddell (Bellevue, WA) with respective times of 24.86 and 25.17.

The fast day of competition finished with the 200 Free Relay, as Redlands' men's quartet of freshman Lucas Ulmer (Camas, WA), senior Patrick Fink (San Pedro, CA), freshman Joe Widuch (Naperville, IL), and freshman Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) putting together a sixth-place time of 1:25.33.  The women's relay of Rivas, sophomore Olivia Rock (Boulder, CO), Waddell, and freshman Kate Canfield (Naperville, IL) teamed up for a fifth-place showing with a time 1:39.63.

On the one-meter board, the dynamic duo of junior Jessica Kolsky (Red Wing, MN) and sophomore Lindsay Nichols (Arroyo Grande, CA) put together solid scores for the Bulldogs.  Kolsky placed fourth with an 11-dive total of 372.85, while Nichols closely followed in fifth place by earning 367.70 points.

Redlands continues the SCIAC Championships on Saturday, February 20, with the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 400 Medley Relay, and the men's one-meter diving finals.
