On Saturday, the University of Redlands swimming & diving team continued its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) slate by taking on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Senior Day at the Thompson Aquatic Center. Despite the festive occasion, the Bulldog men suffered a 67.5-172.5 loss, while the Redlands women fell by a score of 76-167.
Senior Jeff Depew (Naperville, IL) highlighted the men's performances by hoisting the gold in the 400 Individual Medley (4:13.74) and the 200 Fly (1:54.57). Depew dominated the competition, as he finished more than three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in each race.
Senior David Sekula (LaGrange, IL) snagged a winning time of 17:22.6 in the 1650 Free while out-touching the nearest competitor by nearly 15 seconds. In addition, freshman Nick Gambatese (Corvallis, OR) notched a second-place finish in the 200 Back with a time of 2:02.47.
The 400 Medley Relay of sophomore Will Tyrrell (Portland, OR), freshman Harlan Long (Orlando Park, IL), junior Patrick Fink (San Pedro, CA), and Depew took second by clocking a 3:36.45-time.
Finally, the 200 Free Relay of senior Eric LoPrete (Beaverton, OR), junior Nelson Glendinning (Philadelphia, PA), Fink, and Tyrrell registered a second-place showing by completing the race in 1:28.70.
For the women, sophomore Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) touched the wall first in the 400 IM by registering a time of 4:45.17, which was more than three seconds faster than the second-place competitor. Jaques later finished second in the 100 Free, missing the gold medal by a mere 0.26 seconds with a total time of 54.63.
Senior Summer Harp (San Bernardino, CA) nabbed a second-place showing in the 1650 Free with a time of 18:15.92, while freshman Emily Waddell (Bellevue, CA) finished second in the 200 Free with a time of 2:01.15.
The Bulldogs continue their SCIAC schedule on Saturday, February 7, when they travel to Orange for the Chapman-La Verne-UR Tri-Meet at 10 a.m.
