Bulldogs' Swimming & Diving Registers Quality Performances in SCIAC Tri-Meet

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams competed against a pair of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foes on Saturday, taking on Cal Lutheran University and Whittier College. The women completed a perfect sweep of the competition by cruising to a 205-94 victory over the hosting Poets while crushing the Regals in a 241-33 decision. The Bulldog men split results by defeating Whittier, 190-93, but fell short against the Kingsmen, 134-165.

For the women, the 400 Medley Relay of freshman Rachel Haney (Redmond, OR), sophomore Jessica Rivers (Renton, WA), freshman Alex Amaro (Sugarland, TX), and freshman Emily Waddell (Bellevue, WA) provided a hot start, as the quartet took home first place by finishing five seconds ahead of the runner-up with a 4:08.27-mark.

Senior Summer Harp (San Bernardino, CA) continued the first-place trend by snagging the top spot in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:12.84. Freshman Linnae Rodriguez (Hollister, CA) finished in second place with an 11:28.36-time.

Sophomore Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) dominated the 100 Breast with a first-place finish in 1:08.26, which was five seconds faster than the second-place competitor. Jaques later went on to touch the wall first in the 100 Free (54.46) and the 400 Individual Medley (4:42.10) to equal three individual winning performances on the day.

Other notable top showings included Waddell in the 50 Free (25.41), freshman Claire Stuhr (Portland, OR) in the 200 Fly (2:14.59) and 200 Breast (2:30.65), sophomore Cassidy Cramton (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) in the 500 Free (5:30.60), and freshman Olivia Rock (Boulder, CO) in the 100 Fly (1:00.56).

Senior Jeff Depew (Naperville, IL) highlighted the men's success after three, first-place finishes on the day, taking gold in the 100 Back (52.67), 100 Fly (51.26), and 400 IM (4:10.30). In addition, he contributed to the 400 Medley Relay of sophomore Will Tyrrell (Portland, OR), freshman Harlan Long (Orland Park, IL), and junior Nelson Glendinning (Philadelphia, PA) that brought home first place with a time of 3:30.21, which was six seconds ahead of the runner-up.

In addition, Tyrrell notched a winning time of 1:58.67 in the 200 Back, while sophomore Eric Bugna (Vancouver, WA) placed second in the 200 Fly by a mere second after recording a time of 2:00.47. Senior Eric LoPrete (Beaverton, OR) and Glendinning teamed up to take second and third in the 100 Free by touching the wall in 48.30 and 48.58, respectively.

On the diving boards, sophomore Jessica Kolsky (Red Wing, MN) compiled 229.90 points on the one-meter to land at the top of the podium. Kolsky continued to impress on the three-meter by notching another winning finish with 205.80 points.

For the men, sophomore Miko Mallari (Palo Alto, CA) placed fourth in both the one-meter (157.85) and the three-meter (138.30) as Redlands' top representative.

The Bulldogs continue SCIAC competition against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Saturday, January 24, when they travel to Claremont for the 10 a.m. meet.
