U of R Divers Garner Experience at Bulldog Diving Invite

The University of Redlands hosted the annual Bulldog Diving Invite on Saturday, providing an early opportunity for divers from all over the Southern California region to gain experience amongst tough competition.  While competing against Division I, II, and III programs, the Bulldogs performed well and received some solid early-season marks.

For the U of R men, freshman Marcus Fukuhara (Belmont, CA) led the way with a fifth-place finish in the one-meter event, coming in ahead of a number of different Division I, II, and III competitors.  With a total score of 205.40 after six dives, he ranked as the third-highest Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) scorer at the meet.  In the three-meter dive, Fukuhara registered a ninth-place finish (206.95).

Freshman Fernando Hudson (Indian Wells, CA) also showed well for the Bulldog men, taking 16th (130.35) in the one-meter event, and 18th (126.90) in the three-meter dive.  In addition, senior Steven Cully (Anaheim Hills, CA) recorded an 18th-place mark in the one-meter dive (106.50) and a 13th-place finish (153.45) in the three-meter event.

For the Redlands women, freshman Jessica Kolsky (Red Wing, MN) finished as the top Bulldog diver with marks of 178.15 in the one-meter event, and 172.90 in the three-meter dive, placing 15th and 17th, respectively.  Moreover junior Erica Pieramico (Oceanside, CA) placed 23rd (151.75) in the three-meter event and 31st in the one-meter dive (130.45).

Redlands opens up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition on Saturday, November 23, when it hosts Caltech at the Thompson Aquatic Center.  The diving events begin at 10:30 a.m. while the swimming portion of the meet starts at 11 a.m.
