Chelsea Rex joined the University of Redlands softball staff as a graduate assistant coach in December of 2016 and completed her Master of Arts in Higher Education in 2018.  She stayed on as the first-ever full-time assistant coach for the softball program, starting in the spring of 2019.

Rex was born and raised in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2015. Due to her sharpness and commitment to education, Rex completed a second bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education later that December.

While at St. Francis, Rex split her time between the pitcher’s mound and third base for the NCAA Division I Red Flash softball team. Offensively, Rex hit .227 with 40 RBIs and seven home runs. As a starting pitcher, she recorded a career ERA of 4.13. In 2013, her efforts in the classroom and on the field culminated in being named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athlete.

Rex’s previous work experience includes serving as a student assistant to the St. Francis athletic department by working games, taking statistics, uploading pictures and rosters, and updating social media. She also has gained experience as a substitute teacher. Most recently, Rex worked as a mobile crisis counselor, using verbal resolution tools and providing risk assessment and support.

In addition, she brings coaching experience from her time as a volunteer high school softball coach, specifically in pitching and hitting.

Beyond softball, Rex is a certified yoga instructor and enjoys integrating yoga into her team's well-being.

Rex truly enjoys coaching and loves having the opportunity to impact student-athletes’ lives to better their future. In her free time, she enjoys fishing, camping, hiking, and baking.
