Kalyn Kershner named the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Softball Athletes of the Week in the twelfth week of voting and University of Redlands junior utility player Kalyn Kershner (Ewa Beach, HI) was named the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career.

She is now the first Bulldog to earn Pitcher of the Week accolades this season and the fourth Bulldog on the season to earn Athlete of the Week honors joining Tyesen Gordon (2x) and Collette Allen.     

Kalyn had the biggest weekend of her career leading the University of Redlands Softball team to a sweep over the University of La Verne 10-0, 6-1, and 5-4 that has propelled them into the top spot within the conference standings.  She was called upon to pitch all three games due to an injury to Danielle Stallings and she stepped up going 3-0 over the three games with two complete games, while surrendering just one run over 18.0 Innings.  She also had a 5.83 K/7 Innings with a 0.39 ERA, while totaling 15 strikeouts. 

In Game 1 Friday she threw a complete game shutout giving up just three hits along with five strikeouts.  She then came back to throw another complete game in the first game of the doubleheader Saturday going 7.0 Innings strong giving up a run on five hits, while picking up another six strikeouts.  Then to wrap up the weekend, she came in relief in the second game of the doubleheader throwing the final 6.0 Innings scoreless, giving up just five hits, totaling four strikeouts allowing the Bulldogs to come back to win in extras. 

Kalyn not only picked up three wins in the circle she also batted going 4-for-8 (.500) with an OBP of .500 and a slugging percentage of .500.  She scored once and drove in three along with stealing two bases.

The Bulldogs have next week off as they prepare to host Occidental College on Friday, April 29 at "The Field of Dreams" beginning at 3:00pm.  Prior to the game Redlands will recognize their five seniors.  The next day on Saturday, April 30 the Bulldogs will travel into Los Angeles, CA for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
