LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Softball team picked up their fifth straight win Friday afternoon in a 10-0 run-rule over the University of La Verne on the road to open a three-game series.

The Bulldogs connected for three homeruns and got a complete game shutout from Kalyn Kershner (Ewa Beach, HI) as they improve to 18-11, 11-5 SCIAC.

Redlands got off to a fast start with a one-two-three bottom of the first by Kershner and followed that up with a solo home run from Sierra Daley (Torrance, CA) in what would be the game-winning run.

Following a second perfect inning from Kershner, Alexis Campos (Lake Forest, CA) would get into the action, which would lead to Collette Allen (Sierra Madre, CA) going yard for a two-run shot.  The inning continued after that with Daley singling to left and Annabelle Gutierrez (Gilroy, CA) drawing a walk.  This then led to Kershner helping herself out with an RBI single to right center moving the score to 4-0.

Campos opened the scoring in the fourth with a two-run home run that brought around Paige Messenlehner (Fresno, CA) who doubled to lead off the inning. The Bulldogs then tacked on a third run in the inning coming off a fielding error that plated Tyesen Gordon (Lathrop, CA).

The Bulldogs locked up the run-rule victory in the fifth thanks to two more RBIs for Messenlehner and an RBI single by Allen in their third-straight three-run inning. Kershner secured the complete-game shutout with a three-up, three-down bottom half of the frame.

This was Kershner's second shutout of the season as she improves to 4-6.  She surrendered just three hits and collected five strikeouts.  At the plate she went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and two steals. Overall, seven players reached base twice with Campos (2-for-4, two RBIs, two runs), Allen (2-for-4, three RBIs, one run), Gordon (1-for-3, a walk, one run), Daley (2-for-4, one RBI, two runs), Gutierrez (1-for-2, one walk, one stolen base), Kershner, and Messenlehner (2-for-3, two RBIs, two runs) all finding their way on.

The Bulldogs wrap-up their three-game series with the Leopards at The Field of Dreams tomorrow, Saturday, April 16 with a doubleheader.  First pitches slated for 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
