REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Softball team swept Lewis & Clark Saturday afternoon at "The Field of Dreams" thanks to a 10-2 run-rule victory in game one and an 8-7 come-from-behind victory in game two when at one point the Bulldogs trailed 7-0.

The Maroon and Grey have now won three in a row and improve to 12-9, 5-4 SCIAC.

Head Coach Jose Ortega also had some thoughts on the win explaining that, "today was a great day for the program.  We have been struggling at home so it felt good to take two from a tough Lewis & Clark team.  We started to swing the bats like we know we are capable of and that's a good sign heading into a single game against DePauw and the rest of the conference schedule."

Game 1 (W, 10-2 | 5 Innings)

The Bulldogs allowed the only two runs of the game in the first inning when the Pioneers got a lucky bounce with a pop up on the infield that fell in front of first baseman Sierra Daley (Torrance, CA).  She let it roll in hopes of it going foul, but it stopped right next to the line in front of the base allowing those two runs to come in with two outs.

In the bottom of the inning Collette Allen (Sierra Madre, CA) led things off with a solo home run to left field and that was the spark UR needed as Daley would then tie the game up with a single to center that plated Alexis Campos (Lake Forest, CA), followed by Kalyn Kershner (Ewa Beach, HI) who kept the inning alive with the eventual game-winning RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Allen led off the second inning with a double to dead center and was followed by a Campos single to left.  Tyesen Gordon (Lathrop, CA) then stepped in and drove a two-run double to left center, which plated both runners moving the score to 5-2.  Isabella Culp (Hanford, CA) led off the 4th Inning in a big way connecting for her first career home run to left field.  After that Campos singled to center, Gordon beat out a throw on the infield and a pair of Pioneer errors would allow UR to extend the lead to 9-2.  Then in the 5th, starting pitcher Danielle Stallings (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) helped herself out connecting for an insurance run, which was a solo shot, her first of her career to left that completed the run-rule, ending the game.

Stallings went a complete game giving up two runs on two hits with four strikeouts.  She improves to 8-2.  Allen (2-for-3, two runs, one RBI), Campos (3-for-3, three runs), and Gordon (3-for-3, two runs, two RBIs) all had multi-hit afternoons.

Game 2 (W, 8-7)

Redlands made life hard on themselves in game two as they allowed the Pioneers to jump out to a 7-0 lead after three innings with six of the seven runs coming on extra-base hits.

But the Bulldogs mounted a comeback chipping away at the lead beginning with a solo home run from Campos in the 4th Inning becoming the third Bulldog to hit her first career homerun in the series.

Down six in the 6th Inning the Bulldogs put together a two-out rally scoring four runs on five hits.  Gordon who reached earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice was moved up into scoring position thanks to an Annabelle Gutierrez (Gilroy, CA) single to center.  After that it would be

Paige Messenlehner (Fresno, CA) who would connect for a three-run shot to left that made it a three-run game, the closest the Bulldogs had been since the start of the third inning.

In that same inning first year Isabella Bojorquez (Redlands, CA) came up clutch turning on a pitch to left center for an RBI double that drove home starting pitcher Kershner.  This made the deficit two heading into the seventh.  In the Bulldogs' final at-bats they would come up with the big hits when they needed them.  Allen led off the inning with a walk and was followed by a Campos single through the left side.  This brought up Gordon who would double to right center scoring two making it a one-run game.  Daley would keep the inning going getting hit by a pitch and Gutierrez would load the bases with a fielder's choice.  This then led to Messenlehner who would connect for a base hit through the left side, walking the Bulldogs off for the second time over their past three games.

Redlands finished with 12 hits, which included four doubles and two home runs.  They also received hits from eight different players.  Kershner went six innings giving up seven runs on 10 hits and left with the no decision.  Stallings came in for the seventh gave up just one hit with a strikeout and recorded her ninth win on the season.

The Bulldogs will wrap up their non-conference schedule when they host DePauw University next Tuesday, March 29 beginning at 3:00 p.m. (Original date was Monday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m., but it was changed due to inclement weather in the forecast).
