Stallings and Horton Selected as SCIAC Athletes of the Week for Softball

Danielle Stallings and Natalie Horton named SCIAC Pitcher and Hitter of the Week

On the heels of the exciting tournament championship weekend, the University of Redlands softball team also hauled in both Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athletes of the Week, as announced on Monday.  Senior pitcher Danielle Stallings (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) was tabbed the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week, while junior shortstop Natalie Horton (Palmdale, CA) was named the SCIAC Hitter of the Week.

Stallings aided the Bulldogs' 3-0 performance at the SCIAC Postseason Tournament by earning two wins from the circle.  She pitched her third complete-game victory of the season in Friday's 4-2 decision over Cal Lutheran University before providing 5.2 innings of solid work in the Maroon and Gray' 6-2 win over Chapman in the title contest on Sunday.

As the leadoff hitter, Horton impressed from the plate with a .455 batting average that came off a 5-for-11 showing.  She knocked a double, triple, and home run, to go along with four RBI and no strikeouts.  She owned a slugging percentage of 1.000 for the weekend.  Upon conclusion of the tournament, Horton was honored as the MVP for her softball contributions and energetic leadership.

This marks the fourth time this season that Redlands has garnered both weekly softball awards.  Stallings is a repeat recipient, while Horton gains her inaugural athlete-of-the-week honor.
