Bulldog Softball Sweeps SCIAC Awards in Back-to-Back Weeks

The University of Redlands softball team swept Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competitor Chapman University over the weekend, only giving up one run with wins of 2-0, 8-0, and 8-1.  First-year second baseman Collette Allen (Sierra Madre, CA) secured her third Hitter of the Week while sophomore Madeline Gonzalez (Colton, CA) snagged the Pitcher of the Week award.

Allen went 5-for-9 (.556) over the three games, scoring four runs while tallying eight RBI. She knocked three doubles, a triple, a home run and walked three times. Her weekend was highlighted by a bases-clearing, walk-off double, 8-0, in game two of the series. Allen also impressed with a 1.444 slugging percentage. She leads the SCIAC with 18 RBI, ten more than second place. She also comes in first with a .438 batting average and three home runs.  

Gonzalez secured the 8-1, victory from the circle throwing a full seven innings to complete the series sweep of Chapman. She struck out seven, only gave up four hits and one earned run, and handed out no walks. Gonzalez also helped her own cause from the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Additionally, senior pitcher Danielle Stallings (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and first-year pitcher Kassidy Millar (Everett, WA) earned wins in games one and two. They both shut out the Panthers and combined for 13 Ks. Stallings leads the SCIAC with three wins while Stallings and Millar take the top spot with a low, 1.75 ERA.
