The University of Redlands softball team continued Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Saturday by traveling to Claremont to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The Bulldogs struggled against the Athenas, dropping the first game, 3-8, and then falling in the second game, 0-9.

In game one, the Bulldogs struck first when sophomore first baseman Vicki King (Thousand Oaks, CA) doubled home junior right-fielder AJ Carrasco (Whittier, CA).

After CMS took a 2-1 lead in the following half-inning, the Maroon and Gray responded with a pair of runs. Junior pinch-hitter Dani Santos (West Covina, CA) put the ball in play to force a fielding error that plated junior left-fielder Grace Rose (Villa Park, CA) and freshman shortstop Shannon Skrzynski (Pomona, CA) to put Redlands back in front, 3-2.

Despite scoring in the first two innings of the game, the Bulldogs were held off the board for the remainder of the contest and eventually fell by a score of 3-8.

The Bulldogs scattered six hits while committing three errors in the field.

Freshman pitcher Lauren Henson (Highland, CA) picked up the loss after throwing six innings and allowing six runs.

At the plate, King notched a 2-for-3 showing with an RBI.

In game two, the Bulldogs struggled to find their offensive rhythm in a hitless outing en route to 0-9 loss.

The Bulldogs had two batters reach base, as graduate student designated player Amanda Lievanos (Anaheim, CA) was walked and Skrzysnki took a hit- by-pitch.

Henson picked up her second loss of the day after giving up eight runs, two of which were unearned.

The Bulldogs (5-9, 3-7 in SCIAC) return home on Thursday, March 12, to face Ithaca College (NY) in a 2 p.m. non-conference tilt at the "Field of Dreams."
