The 19th-ranked University of Redlands softball team fired off a pair of 8-0 wins in five innings over Cal Lutheran University on Sunday in Thousand Oaks, improving to 16-0 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition.  While taking on the Regals in a rescheduled twin-bill, the Bulldogs strengthened their position at the top of the conference standings as the only undefeated team.

With senior pitcher Kaitlyn Hooper (Riverside, CA) in the circle, the Maroon and Gray stepped up with 10 innings of shutout ball.  While facing 40 batters on the day, she scattered six hits en route to her 13th and 14th wins of the season.

In the opener, Redlands jumped out to an early two-run lead before pushing across three in each of the fourth and fifth frames for the shortened contest.   In the top of the fourth, senior center-fielder Amanda Lievanos (Anaheim, CA) uncorked her team-leading sixth homerun of the season, plating two to extend the Bulldogs' advantage to five.

Highlighting the fifth inning, senior catcher Kristen Hooper (Riverside, CA) rocketed a double to right-center field to bring home senior second baseman Amanda Clark (Riverside, CA) and senior right-fielder Janelle Carrasco (Whittier, CA).

Kristen Hooper finished the game with a 2-for-3 effort for four RBI, while Clark and Carrasco accounted for five of the team's runs scored.

During the second contest, the Bulldogs used a five-spot in the top of the fourth to propel them to a five-inning win once again.  Kristen Hooper, Lievanos, and sophomore short stop Vicki King (Thousand Oaks, CA) all notched RBI during this spurt, with King's coming off of a three-run shot with two outs for her fourth homerun of the season.

The Maroon and Gray garnered the eighth run of the game when Kaitlyn Hooper connected on an RBI-double in the top of the fifth frame.  While revealing her versatility, she then preserved the shutout by retiring the side in the bottom of the inning.

King highlighted the Redlands offense in game two with a 2-for-2 showing at the plate for four RBI.

Redlands (20-6, 16-0 SCIAC) returns home for the next three twin-bills, beginning with Friday's match-up against Whittier College at 2 p.m. at the "Field of Dreams."  Fans may follow the action through free live-stats at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/redlands.portal#.
