CWPA Announces USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate National Championship All-Tournament Team

USA Water Polo All-Tournament Team

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) released the All-Tournament team for the USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate National Championships this week following the two-day event that took place in Thousand Oaks, CA.

The University of Redlands who came away with a pair of wins over No. 2 Johns Hopkins University and No. 1 California Lutheran University to win the program's first national title had three members of their team selected to the All-Tournament Team along with landing the Most Valuable Player accolades.

Senior Goalkeeper Liam Murphy (Placentia, CA) was named the Most Valuable Player for the Championships and was named to the All-Tournament Team and was joined by Drake Moody (Camarillo, CA) and Andrew Higginson (San Diego, CA).

Across the two games Murphy posted 30 saves, 15 more than second place, a .732 save percentage, .313 better than second place, and a 5.90 GAA, 3.1 better than second place.  Against the Blue Jays he had 12 saves and against the Kingsmen he came away with a career high 18 stops.   

Moody had a great weekend finishing as the leading scorer with eight goals, he also tied for ninth with two assists, and with that won the point-title with 10 points.  In the first game against Johns Hopkins he had six goals and three drawn exclusions and then followed that performance up with another two goals, two assists, two drawn exclusions and two steals against the Kingsmen.      

Higginson played a pivotal role as well for the Maroon and Grey combining for three goals, five assists, and three steals across the two games.  He opened with a goal, assist and two steals against JHU and then provided two goals, four assists, and a steal against CLU.
