SCIAC Men's Water Polo Weekly Release No. 5

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Men's Water Polo Athletes of the Week in the fifth week of voting and University of Redlands senior goalie Liam Murphy (Placentia, CA) was selected as the Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.

Liam led the University of Redlands to a perfect 3-0 week as he proved to be a dominant presence between the posts.  The Bulldogs beat Ottawa University (18-7) on Thursday and carried that momentum over into the Gary Troyer where they upset No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer (9-8) and No. 4 Johns Hopkins (11-4).  He started all three games and picked up all three wins.  He totaled 72:00 minutes, 29 Saves, 4 Steals and a .767 Save Percentage. 

Against Ottawa he had five saves, two steals with an .833 save percentage.  Then against Pomona-Pitzer posted 14 stops with a .636 save percentage.  Then to end the day would come up with 10 saves against the Blue Jays along with two more steals and another .833 save percentage.

Redlands returns to the pool this Wednesday, October 5 when they travel to Thousand Oaks, CA for a match-up with the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen beginning at 4:00pm.
