After a quick turnaround from their last game, the University of Redlands men's water polo team headed to Occidental College for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup.

Following a very even first period, the Bulldogs held a slight, 3-2 lead through the first eight minutes of action.

The Maroon and Gray offense really got going as senior attacker Kyle Jackson (Naperville, IL) found the back of the net on a penalty shot. After an Occidental turnover, the Bulldogs turned right back around as senior attacker Carter Kerwin (Bakersfield, CA) put one through the posts to give Redlands a 5-2 lead with 6:17 left in the second.

Although the Tigers scored twice in the remainder of the period, senior center Cooper Krause (Denver, CO) and junior attacker Chris Frejlach (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) matched that effort and combined for two goals to hold a solid, 7-4 lead heading into halftime.

Midway through the third, senior attacker Spencer Allen (Long Beach, CA) found his rhythm by knocking down two consecutive goals less than a minute apart to go up 10-6.

Allen continued to roll, winning the fourth quarter sprint and scoring the first goal of the period at 6:47. Just under two minutes later, Allen found Kerwin for the score the give the Bulldogs a 13-7 lead.

Although Occidental went on a 2-1 run for the rest of the fourth, the Bulldogs had built a big enough lead to take the game 14-9 at the final buzzer.

Allen and Jackson won all four of Redlands sprints while Allen ended the night with four goals and three assists and Jackson added two goals and three assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Gates (San Jose, CA) was solid between the posts registering eight saves.

Redlands (12-13, 5-6 SCIAC) returns home on Saturday, November 9, for a SCIAC game against Caltech at 11 a.m. The team then hits the road that same day to take on non-conference competitor Cal Baptist University at 6 p.m.
