TALLAHASSEE, FL – The ITA Tennis-Point National Summer Championships, hosted by Florida State and Universal Tennis came to a close this week following a 64-player field, which included the top five point finishers in the summer circuit.
The players who competed all looked to secure a wildcard spot into the ITA Men's and Women's All-American Championships later this year. The six-day event took place on the campus of Florida State in Tallahassee, FL.
Two of the players who competed made some noise in their respective draws, and they both came from the University of Redlands. Jack Mattox, who is now a sophomore for the Maroon and Grey made the biggest statement making his way to the Round of 16 in singles. He opened with a walkover in the Round of 64 against Matt Pitts (Clemson) before taking out Carter Morgan from the University of South Carolina 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. But his run would end against eventual quarterfinalist Antoine Cornut Chauvinc from Florida State 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Mattox was paired with Tim Pitts from Clemson and after a Bye in the Round of 32 the duo would take on eventual finalists Trice Pickens and Presley Thieneman from Northwestern University falling 8-6.
Another Bulldog who competed during the week was Division I transfer Bryce Keim from Wofford University who opened with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 singles win in the Round of 64 against Jarrett Karnibad from Mount St. Mary's. He attempted to carry this momentum into the Round of 32, but ran into N.C. State's Martins Rocens falling 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles Keim joined his former Wofford partner Robert Young and they too had a Bye in the Round of 32 before getting knocked out in the Round of 16 to eventual semi-finalists Jordan Bickersteth and William Cooksey from the University of Michigan 8-3.
