Redlands Men’s Tennis wraps up 2022 against Claremont-M-S on Senior Day

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team wrapped up their 2022 schedule Saturday with an 8-1 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the road.

The Bulldogs recognized their two seniors after the match, which included Thomas Reznik (Belmont, CA) and Andrew Yip (Honolulu, HI).

Redlands finishes the season at .500 (9-9, 3-4 SCIAC) and missed the SCIAC Tournament by a match. 

The Maroon and Grey provided a test against the Stags picking up a point in doubles, which came at the top spot from Stefan Hester (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) and Jack Mattox (Mercer Island, WA) who won 8-5.  They had opportunities to grab the advantage at No. 3 from the team of Donovan Lilov (San Diego, CA) and Josh Nelson (Montrose, NY) who stayed close throughout, but they were broken late falling 8-6.

In singles, CMS shifted their lineup up, pulling their No. 2 and moving everyone up a spot.  Hester put up a fight against Liu at No. 1, one of the top ranked players in the country going three sets.  After dropping the opening frame 6-2, battled back to level the match with a 6-4 second and despite staying on serve throughout the decisive third set, was unable to shake off a late break falling 6-3. 

Yip started off strong in his opening set at No. 3 getting broken at 6-5 before seeing his opponent win seven of the next eight games to take the match.  Nelson had a match at No. 5 dropping in a pair of nailbiters.  He forced the first set to a breaker, only to fall 7-6 (1) and then stayed right with his opponent in the second set before getting broken at 6-5.  Reznik followed at No. 6 putting together an impressive final collegiate match.  He too forced a breaker and nearly earned the advantage falling 7-6 (11), before getting broken late in the second at 6-4.

The other two matches on included Mattox at No. 2 who would go down 6-2, 6-2 and Lilov who would drop a 6-2, 6-2 match at No. 4.
