Junior Brysl Libao Represents Redlands on CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large First Team

It was announced earlier today that junior Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) of the University of Redlands men's tennis team landed on the 2019-20 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large First Team for NCAA Division III.

CoSIDA's Academic All-District award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The At-Large award is a competitive field that includes many different sports and very few slots. The honorees come from sports including wrestling, lacrosse, tennis, water polo, golf, and swimming. Libao is one of 16 on the NCAA DIII District Eight team, one of four juniors selected, and also one of four Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schools represented.

Due to the cancellation of spring sports, CoSIDA chose to include statistics and accolades from the student-athletes' entire career and not just this season.

Academically, Libao is a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete and has landed on the SCIAC All-Academic squad as well. As a sophomore, he won the doubles consolation bracket of the A Flight at the Fall ITA West Regional. Later that season he went on to represent the U of R in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament to become an NCAA All-American in doubles.

Libao duplicated his efforts in the 2019-20 season to repeat as an All-American at the ITA West Regional and finished as the Doubles Champion. He then represented Redlands at the ITA National Cup in doubles and made it to the final. In a fine start to the 2020 spring season, Libao and doubles partner Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) were ranked the No. 2 doubles team in the nation by the ITA.

Libao is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration, which will be announced in mid-June.
