The No. 25 University of Redlands men's tennis team swept the visiting Cowboys of Hardin-Simmons University (TX) in Saturday's non-conference showdown on Verdieck Courts. The Bulldogs stormed out to a 3-0 lead with quality scores in the doubles matches before registering straight-set wins at every singles slot.
Senior Brad Cummins (Palm Desert, CA) and junior Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) set the tone early with their 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while first-years Donovan Lilov (San Diego, CA) and Michael Cabacungan (Palm Springs, CA) followed suit with an 8-4 performance on the third court. Sophomores Thomas Reznik (Belmont, CA) and Andrew Yip (Honolulu, HI) completed the doubles sweep by earning an 8-3 win over their No. 2 counterparts.
In singles, it was much of the same, as Lilov took down his No. 2 foe for Redlands' 4-0 lead. Yip officially put this one in the books with his 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Libao, Cabacungan, Reznik, and senior Andrew Leahy (Claremont, CA) also recorded positive results in singles to preserve the shutout.
Redlands (3-2) takes on No. 28 Whitman College (WA) on Saturday, March 21, at 10 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.
