No. 25 Men's Tennis Downs Christopher Newport 7-2

In a non-conference home match against the Captains of Christopher Newport University (VA) the University of Redlands men's tennis team battled to a 7-2 on Friday afternoon.

In doubles action, senior Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and junior Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) kicked-off the match with an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 spot.

After falling at No.2, first-years Donovan Lilov (San Diego, CA) and Michael Cabacungan (Palm Springs, CA) prevailed over their No. 3 counterparts by a score of 8-4 to help the Bulldogs to a 2-1 advantage.

Libao then got singles going with a 6-2, 6-4 win from the third court before the Captains gained a victory at No. 4 to slightly close the gap. However, Redlands closed the match out with four straight wins from sophomore Andrew Yip (Honolulu, HI) (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5, Cummins (6-3, 6-4) at No. 6, Lilov (6-3, 3-6, 10-8) at No. 2 and finally senior Andrew Leahy (Claremont, CA) (6-3, 7-6 (4) at No. 1

Redlands (2-2) approaches the middle of an 11-game homestand with its match against Hardin-Simmons University (TX) on Saturday, March 7, at 10 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.
