Doug Verdieck '70 Selected to the ITA Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame

It was announced earlier today that University of Redlands tennis standout Doug Verdieck '70 will be inducted into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame as part of this year's six-person class of honorees.

The celebration will take place on Sunday, May 19, in Orlando, Florida, at a luncheon prior to the start of the NCAA Division I men's tennis final.

Verdieck competed for his dad Jim Verdieck at the University of Redlands from 1966 to 1970 and helped the Bulldogs win four NAIA team championships.  A four-time All-American, Doug captured the NAIA singles national title each year of his career and won three NAIA doubles national championships, including two with his brother Randy.  In addition, he prevailed as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) singles and doubles champion for four years in a row.

Doug entered the University of Redlands Bulldog Bench Hall of Fame in 1983 and again as a member of the 1969 men's tennis team that was honored in 2007.

The ITA Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame is located at the University of Georgia's Henry Field stadium in Athens and includes more than 260 players, coaches, and contributors since the induction of its inaugural class in 1983.  Doug joins Dave Fish, Greg Patton, Roy Barth, Somdev Devvarman, and Sagis Sargsian among this year's Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame inductees.  For more information, please visit the ITA website.
