The No. 34 University of Redlands men's tennis team knocked off No. 19 Whitman College (WA) by a score of 5-4 in an in-region battle on Verdieck Courts on Friday afternoon.  After earning a 2-1 lead through the doubles, the Bulldogs won three of the first four singles matches to come off the courts en route to the important win.

Although Whitman scored the opening point, Redlands rebounded with positive results at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles.  First, junior Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and sophomore Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) captured an 8-6 decision at the top slot before senior Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and first-year Andrew Yip (Honolulu, HI) prevailed at No. 3, 8-4.

The Maroon and Gray maintained the momentum in singles with junior Andrew Leahy (Claremont, CA) earning a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 for the home team's 3-1 lead.

Although Whitman cut it to one with a win at No. 3, Lipscomb answered for the Bulldogs by defeating his No. 1 counterpart, 6-4, 7-5.

Shortly thereafter, Libao sealed the deal at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-1 performance.

Redlands (6-2) squares off with No.22 Tufts University (MA) on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.
