The No. 13 University of Redlands men's tennis team faced a busy Saturday of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action and split results by defeating Chapman University, 7-2, on the road before falling to No. 36 Caltech in a 3-6 decision.

Against Chapman, the Bulldogs overcame their early deficit by winning both of the remaining doubles matches.  Junior Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and first-year Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) got things started in fine fashion by dismissing their No. 1 counterparts in an 8-2 showing.  First-years Cameron Krimbill (Scottsdale, AZ) and Noah Morrow (Stevenson Ranch, CA) secured the Bulldogs' second point of the match by earning an 8-4 victory at No. 2.

Now tied at 2-2, the teams headed into singles, but Redlands maintained the momentum, with Lipscomb's 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 1 slot.  Libao followed suit with his 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 4 before first-year Mauricio Orozco (Cancun, Mexico) put this one in the books by defeating his No. 5 opponent, 6-3, 6-3.

Furthermore, Krimbill and Morrow each prevailed in their respective singles matches.

The Bulldogs returned home from Orange to face Caltech in an afternoon tilt on Verdieck Courts.  Despite taking a 2-1 lead in the doubles, Redlands struggled in the singles matches and ultimately lost all but one.

Lipscomb and Libao captured an 8-6 win at the No. 1 slot in doubles, while Krimbill and Morrow stepped up with a 9-8(2) effort at No. 2.

With the score tied, the Maroon and Gray lost steam in singles, as Caltech took the lead with a shortened match due to retirement at No. 5 and subsequent wins in the next three matches off the court.  Redlands' only singles win came off the racket of Morrow, who defeated his No. 3 foe by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 11-9.

Redlands (9-7, 2-3 SCIAC) hosts Cal Lutheran University on Friday, April 13, at 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
