No. 8 Redlands Men's Tennis Surges past No. 23 Sewanee and Wooster in Quality Outing

The No. 8 University of Redlands men's tennis team returned to the win column in both non-conference matches on Saturday to cap off a busy week of competition.  The Bulldogs opened the day by earning a 7-2 decision over the No. 23 Sewanee: University of the South, before cruising past the College of Wooster, 9-0.

Against Sewanee, the Bulldogs raced out to a 3-0 lead in the doubles with solid performances at every position.  The No. 2 tandem of sophomore Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and freshman Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) rolled to an 8-1 victory, before the senior duo of Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) and Tom Suchodolski (Amherst, MA) took care of business at No. 3 with an 8-5 win.  Senior Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) and junior Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) completed the Bulldogs' sweep by defeating their counterparts at No. 1 by a score of 8-6.

With a 3-0 advantage, Redlands sealed the deal in an efficient manner by prevailing in the first two singles matches off the court. Wilson dominated his No. 2 opponent in a 6-2, 6-0 effort, while Dulle registered a solid 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3.

In addition, freshman Avery Davis (Jensen Beach, FL), Ly, and Suchodolski each recorded wins to secure the 7-2 Redlands victory.

During the afternoon match, the Bulldogs were reunited with one of their own in Zack Hasenyager '08, '14, who is now the Head Coach at Wooster.  Despite the familiar connection, Redlands was anything but friendly in the results of the match, as the home team blanked the Fighting Scots, 9-0.

Redlands jumped out to another 3-0 lead in doubles, as highlighted by Wilson and Suchodolski's 8-0 performance at the No. 3 slot.

In singles, the Bulldogs elevated Davis to No. 3, where he recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory, while freshman Andrew Leahy (Claremont, CA) took advantage of his appearance at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 showing. Furthermore, Cummins and sophomore Thomas Hanley (Winnetka, IL) added firepower to the depth of the lineup with straight-sets wins that included three sets at 6-0.

Redlands (9-2) takes on No.3 Bowdoin College (ME) on Wednesday, March 22, at 3 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
