No. 18 Redlands Men's Tennis Captures 6-3 Win over No. 29 Swarthmore

The No. 18 University of Redlands men's tennis team battled it out with No. 29 Swarthmore College (PA) on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference showdown on Verdieck Courts.  After taking a 2-1 lead through the doubles, the Bulldogs pulled away by winning the first three singles matches off the court to secure the victory en route to a 6-3 triumph.

Sophomore Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and freshman Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) initiated the scoring with their 8-3 win at No. 2, before senior Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) and junior Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) came out on top with an 8-6 decision at the No. 1 slot.

Although Swarthmore avoided the sweep with a 9-8(4) showing at No. 3, Redlands entered the singles with a slight 2-1 advantage.

The Bulldogs impressed at Nos. 5 and 6 to go up 4-1, as senior Tom Suchodolski (Amherst, MA) and freshman Avery Davis (Jensen Beach, FL) rolled to victories by giving up only one game between them.

This set up Lipscomb's clinching victory at the No. 1 position, which he provided in a 6-0, 6-3 performance.

With the match already in hand, Redlands also gained a solid win from Ly at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

Redlands (5-1) takes on No. 27 Christopher Newport University on Friday, March 10, in a 1 p.m. match on Verdieck Courts.
