The No. 15 University of Redlands men's tennis team squared off against seventh-ranked Amherst College (MA) on Friday afternoon in a non-conference bout on Verdieck Courts.  Despite putting up a solid battle, the Bulldogs fell short of the upset in a 2-7 decision.

During the doubles, the Maroon and Gray showed great determination and skill in a toe-to-toe showdown against Amherst.  However, the Bulldogs mustered only one point, with the No. 2 tandem of freshman Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and junior Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) prevailing by a score of 9-7.  The top duo of junior Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) fought until the very end but lost in a tiebreaker, 9-8(2).

In singles, the momentum stayed with Amherst, as Redlands' only point came at No. 2, where Lipscomb rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over his opponent.

Redlands (9-2) faces No. 18 Whitman College (WA) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, for USTA Campus Kids' Day on Verdieck Courts, before traveling to Eagle Rock to face the Occidental College Tigers in its first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown at 3 p.m.
