The No. 14 University of Redlands men's tennis team welcomed the Patriots of the No. 26 University of Texas-Tyler to Verdieck Courts on Tuesday afternoon for an in-region showdown. After grabbing a 2-1 lead in the doubles, the Bulldogs held onto the momentum to earn a 5-4 victory.
The top tandem of junior Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) put Redlands on the board with an efficient 8-3 showing, while freshman Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and junior Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) posted a similar effort at No. 2 with their 8-4 victory.
Although the Patriots cut the deficit with a win at No. 3, the Bulldogs refused to go away in singles and remained in front through the final point. Dulle cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 1, before Lipscomb registered a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 showing at the No. 2 slot, giving the home team a 4-1 advantage.
However, Texas-Tyler responded with a pair of wins at Nos. 3 and 4, before Ly recorded the clincher at No. 6 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Redlands (9-1) faces No. 8 Amherst College (MA) on Friday, March 18, at 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
