While competing in its third match in five days, the No. 19 University of Redlands men's tennis team blanked the Cowboys of Hardin-Simmons University (TX) in Monday's non-conference showdown on Verdieck Courts. The Bulldogs utilized 10 different players in a total-team effort that saw impressive results at every slot.
In doubles, seniors Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) and Ted Burchett (Gold River, CA) initiated the onslaught with an 8-0 performance at No. 2. The trend continued at the top slot, as seniors Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) cruised to an 8-2 decision. Finally, the doubles sweep was complete when the No. 3 tandem of sophomore Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) and freshman Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) fired off an 8-1 victory.
In singles, the Bulldogs continued to roll by winning every match in straight sets while giving up only one game in three of them.
Ly took down his No. 5 opponent by scores of 6-0, 6-1, while Burchett officially sealed the team triumph with his 6-1, 6-0 showing at the No. 6 slot.
In addition, senior Taylor Hunt (Seattle, WA) posted a 6-1, 6-1 effort at the No. 5 position, while freshman Cooper Lacetera (Westhampton Beach, NY) defeated his No. 3 counterpart by scores of 6-1, 6-4.
Redlands also gained successful outcomes from sophomores Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) and Tom Suchodolski (Amherst, MA) at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
The Bulldogs (7-3) continue their busy stretch of home matches on Wednesday, March 11, when they host Wesleyan University (CT) at 3 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
