The No. 19 University of Redlands men's tennis team battled it out with the No. 17 University of Mary Washington (VA) on Saturday, earning a quality win over the Eagles by a score of 6-3 on Verdieck Courts.  After taking two of the three doubles matches, the Bulldogs notched four wins in singles, including one three-setter, to capture the non-conference victory.

The Maroon and Gray got on the board first with an impressive 8-3 performance by the No. 3 tandem of freshman Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Jake Ly (Torrance, CA).  Redlands continued to roll at No. 1, as the senior duo of Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) cruised to an 8-4 victory.

After the Eagles rallied for the win at No. 2, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 with Lipscomb's efficient win at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-4.

But Mary Washington refused to go away, earning a straight-set win at the No. 3 slot.

Nonetheless, the Maroon and Gray prevailed in three of the four remaining matches, with Cummins, sophomore Tom Suchodolski (Amherst, MA), and senior Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) collecting wins at their respective spots.  First, Suchodolski came away with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 4, before Cummins clinched the deciding point with his 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 slot.

Leahy went on to capture the team's sixth overall point by completing the comeback at No. 6, 1-6, 7-5, 10-6.

Redlands (6-3) returns to action on Monday, March 9, when it hosts Hardin-Simmons University (TX) in a 2 p.m. showdown on Verdieck Courts.
