Jonathan Cheung adds Game-Winner against Occidental

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 23 ranked Bulldogs of the University of Redlands didn't need extra time to put away the Tigers of Occidental College Wednesday night.  Senior Jonathan Cheung (Hong Kong, China) made sure of that providing the game winner in the 87th minute to propel UR to the 2-1 road victory.

The Bulldogs improve now to 5-1, 2-1 SCIAC and have now outscored their opponents 20-5.

Redlands jumped all over the Tigers in the first half and added the lone goal across the first 45:00 minutes coming from Quinn Richards (San Clemente, CA).  The ball was worked from right to left, passed wide to Chad Feingold (Los Gatos, CA) who then served a lovely cross to the back post which was finished by Richards with a diving header.

This score would stay until the 78th minute when Oxy would add the equalizer from Kai Fiedelholtz.  But this momentum would be stopped quickly as UR would continue their attack getting the game-winner from Cheung with just under four minutes to play.  Matt Beasley (Las Vegas, NV) served a long ball forward that dropped before taking a couple bounces out to Cheung who connected on a screamer to the top left corner of the goal.  It hit the underside of the crossbar before breaking the crease coming from 25-yards out.

Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) and Aidan McSweeny (San Diego, CA) each played a half with Lawrence collecting two saves and McSweeny another five.

Occidental held the advantage on shots (17-15) and corner kicks (5-4).  Redlands though had 11 of their 15 shots on frame however.  Avery Jacobson (Seattle, WA) finished with three shots along with Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV).  Cheung added two, same with Richards.

Redlands has a short turnaround as they host Cal Lutheran University this Saturday, September 25 beginning at 7:00pm.
