The University of Redlands men's soccer team took to the road and came back with a 1-0 victory over UC Santa Cruz in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Maroon and Gray controlled possession and earned five corner kicks by the 23rd minute.  The Bulldogs nearly converted on the fourth and fifth, but the header attempts by first-year forward Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV) were blocked and saved, respectively.

Redlands' defense remained steady through a solid first half and only allowed one shot on goal that was saved by first-year goalkeeper Adrian Muñoz (Pasadena, CA) in the 29th minute. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on the Banana Slugs' defense, but to no avail, sending the teams into the break in a stalemate.

Nonetheless, in the 60th minute, sophomore midfielder Avery Jacobson (Seattle, WA) sent a cross to junior midfielder Collin ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR), who beat the Santa Cruz goalkeeper with a header to gain a 1-0 advantage. Jacobson had his chance at a goal less than a minute later, but it was corralled by the Banana Slugs' goalkeeper.

The Bulldogs' defense continued to dominate in the second half to earn the shut-out victory on the road.

Muñoz earned the win with two saves and a clean sheet. As a team, the Maroon and Gray outshot the Banana Slugs, 13-6, and won the corner-kick battle, 10-3.

Redlands (6-4-2, 5-2-1 SCIAC) completes the final match of a four-game road trip against Caltech on Saturday, October 19, at 11 a.m.
