The University of Redlands men's soccer team pulled ahead early and never looked back in a 4-1 victory over Chapman University in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) tilt on Monday night.

Junior midfielder Collin ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) got things going as he chased down a through-ball and drilled it passed the Panthers' goalkeeper to make it 1-0 less than five minutes into the game. Sophomore forward Steve Acuña (Pico Rivera, CA) and junior midfielder Derrin Valeri (Atlanta, GA) both challenged the Chapman goalkeeper, but he made the saves to send his team into the break down by just one goal.

In the second half, ChubbFertal went to work once again with a blast from the top of the box that found the back of the net for a 2-0 Bulldog lead just five minutes in. First-year forward Jackson Fox (Kirkland, WA) continued his momentum with a hustle play to put the Maroon and Gray up by three. After taking a shot that missed the mark, he scrambled to get a foot on the rebound and poked it in for the score in the 61st minute.

Despite the Panthers scoring eight minutes later, Valeri put the game away with a slotted finish to the far post off of a nice slip-pass from senior midfielder Kalle Sjogrell (Danville, CA). The goal put Redlands up 4-1 with 20 minutes left to play.

The Maroon and Gray defense held off the Panthers down the stretch to seal the victory on the road.

Redlands (4-4-2, 4-2-1 SCIAC) continues its four-straight road games at Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, October 12, at 2 p.m.
