The University of Redlands men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory in come-from-behind fashion at the University of La Verne in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start and nearly put one away in the seventh minute on a shot from sophomore forward Steve Acuña (Pico Rivera, CA) that hit the crossbar. Redlands continued to put pressure on the Leopards with a shot from sophomore midfielder Avery Jacobson (Seattle, WA) that was blocked by the La Verne defense in the 29th minute.

The Leopards used a quality counter-attack on their ensuing possession to score the first goal of the game.

However, the Maroon and Gray kept up its intensity and tallied the equalizer in the 33rd off of a penalty kick from junior midfielder Derrin Valeri (Atlanta, GA) to make it 1-1. Jacobson managed another shot on target with just under 10 minutes to go in the half, but the Leopards' defense blocked it.

In the second stanza, Redlands went to work early, as Acuña fed the ball to first-year forward Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV) who netted the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner in the 51st minute. Kovach remained aggressive and challenged the La Verne goalkeeper just four minutes later, but this time his attempt was stopped.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the 59th minute as Jacobson found the back of the net on a quality shot to extend the Maroon and Gray's lead to 3-1.

A late charge from the Leopards fell short as both of their header attempts missed the mark.

The Bulldogs managed the clock down the stretch to secure their 3-1 victory on the road.

As a team, the Bulldogs outshot the Leopards 14-7 and also held a 6-4 edge in the corner-kick battle.

Redlands (1-4-1, 1-2-0 SCIAC) hopes to bring this momentum back home to Farquhar Field for a SCIAC matchup against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, September 28, at 7 p.m.
