The University of Redlands men's soccer team faced off against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Stags on the road in a battle for first place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) on Wednesday night.  Despite a great push in the second half, the Bulldogs relinquished a late goal that resulted in a heartbreaking 0-1 loss.

Amidst the emotionally-charged contest between the top two teams, Redlands registered the first shot of the night when senior midfielder Arman Mogharei (Hayward, CA) sent a header just wide of the net at the 9:26-mark.  About two minutes later, junior goalkeeper Noah Natividad (San Diego, CA) swallowed up a shot at close range to keep the Stags off the board.

The back-and-forth action continued, as junior forward Antony Chonga (San Diego, CA) uncorked a quality shot that forced the CMS goalkeeper to make the stop at the midway mark of the half.  Sophomore midfielder Antonio Chavez (Santa Ana, CA) added to the Maroon and Gray's arsenal with a blast that bounced off a defender in the final minute of the stanza.

During the second half, the teams went toe-to-toe while tallying seven shots and three corner kicks apiece.

CMS came out early with an onslaught of shots, but Natividad denied every attempt with big-time saves.

Beginning in the 64th minute, Redlands put the pressure on the Stags with three corner kicks and four shots within a seven-minute period.  Unfortunately, first-year forward Steve Acuña's (Pico Rivera, CA) effort was the only one to land on-frame.

However, the Stags managed to find the back of the net off a free kick in the 83rd minute to send the Bulldogs home with a difficult defeat.

With the result, the Maroon and Gray slips into a tie for second place with Occidental College, which is CMS' next opponent.

Redlands (12-4-0, 10-3-0 SCIAC) strives to bounce back when it squares off against Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, October 27, for Senior Day at 4 p.m. on Farquhar Field.
