U of R Men's Golf Pulls Within Four Strokes of Stags at SCIAC Championships

BEAUMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team dropped nine strokes over two days at the SCIAC Golf Championships to come within four strokes of the leading Stags of Claremont-M-S heading into the final round. 

Redlands has gone 304-295 (599) and trail only to Claremont-M-S (297-298 = 595).  They do have a comfortable lead ahead of Whittier College (3rd – 620), Pomona-Pitzer (No. 4 – 623), La Verne (No. 4 – 623), Cal Lutheran (No. 5 – 629), Occidental College (No. 6 – 629), and Chapman University (No. 8 – 632).  

The Maroon and Grey have battled the wind and the warm conditions at Morongo Golf Club (Tukwet Canyon), but found a way to shave strokes off after going +7, as a team today on the Champions Course.   

They now sit ahead of Pomona-Pitzer (No. 2 – 608)), Claremont-M-S (No. 3-622), Cal Lutheran (No. 4-633), Chapman University (No. 5-648), Whittier College (No. 6-679), Occidental College (No. 7-696), and the University of La Verne (No. 8-804).

Spencer Leader (Oakland, CA) who was leading the field after Round 1 following a 71, followed that performance up with a +1 over 73 (144).  He is back even for the Championships and sits in a tie for 2nd on the leaderboard.  Right behind him was Senior Jared Stone (American Canyon, CA) who shot -1 under on the second 18 holes boasting a 76-71, which included a birdie on the tough 18th hole, which was one of three on the day.

Joshua Fambro (Taos, NM) was consistent over two days with identical 77's that dropped him one spot into a tie for 10th.  Senior Kyle Sharp (Laguna Beach, CA) after a tough opening 84 bounced back to card a +2 over 74 across the second 18, that bumped him up 17 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 14th

Senior Ryan Crema (Surrey, England) had a pair of rounds in the 80's going 80-83 that dropped him twelve spots into a tie for 35th and Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) followed him in a tie for 41st not finding the rhythm as he would post a two day total of 168 (81-87).             

Over two days the Bulldogs are leading the field in Total Pars (115), are No. 2 in Par 4 Scoring (4.38 | +46), Par 5 Scoring (5.02 | +1), and Total Birdies (29), No. 3 in and No. 4 on Par 3 Scoring (3.44 | +20).  

Redlands wraps up the SCIAC Championships tomorrow, Tuesday, April 26 beginning at 10:00am on the Champions Course.
