Bulldog Men's Golf finishes 22nd at Three-Day Jekyll Island Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, GA – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team wrapped up the three-day Jekyll Island Invitational over the weekend finishing 22nd overall with a three-day total of 909 (299-304-306).

Redlands battled tough conditions and played two courses over the three days, the Jekyll Island Golf Club Pine Lakes Course (6700 Yards) and the Oleander Course (6546 Yards). 

The Bulldogs sat in 19th after Day 1 competition, but dropped three spots into 22nd after going 304-306.  The 45th ranked Division III team according to golfstat was able to beat out La Grange College, St. John Fisher, Birmingham Southern, Skidmore College, Roanoke College, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Maryville College (TN).

Joshua Fambro (Taos, NM) was the top finisher for the Maroon and Grey taking 25th after moving up an impressive 16 spots on the final day.  He shot Even for the tournament, which included a -1 under round over the final 18 holes as he went 72-73-71 (216).  He was also the second highest Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) finisher trailing only to Mason Chiu (Claremont-M-S) who took 17th (70-70-73).

Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) was the second highest scorer for UR at a 229.  He dropped nine spots into a tie for 96th after going 78-72-79. No. 66 ranked Jared Stone (American Canyon, CA) was right behind him in a tie for 99th after jumping up ten spots.  He posted a 230 (75-79-76).

Senior No. 52 Kyle Sharp (Laguna Beach, CA) got off to a strong start with a 74, but couldn't keep the momentum as he would go 80-80 over his last 36 holes to finish 112th. Ben Cowan (Orange, OH) made the biggest move in the lineup for the Bulldogs jumping up 28 spots into a tie for 119th.  All three of his rounds were in the 80's as he combined for a 254 (86-85-83).                

Redlands has the rest of March off and will return to the links on April 9-10 when they take part in SCIAC No. 2 hosted by Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier College at Industry Hills Golf Club.
