Bulldog Men’s Golf Opens 2022 at D3 San Antonio Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team opened up 2022 earlier this week in San Antonio, TX taking 5th at the D3 San Antonio Invitational.

Tough course conditions at TCP-San Antonio made it difficult for the three rounds but the Bulldogs were able to post a 311-315-310 to finish 5th (936) beating Schreiner University (6th – 938) by two strokes, Southwestern University (7th – 942), Pacific Lutheran (8th – 944), and McMurry University (9th – 965).

Two different courses were played, which included the TPC San Antonio – Canyons Course (7106 Yards) and the TPC San Antonio – Oaks Course (7,001 Yards). 

Concordia (TX) won the event with a 302-299-309 (910) and was followed by Trinity University (2nd – 914), St. Thomas (TX) (3rd – 915), and LeTourneau (4th – 925).

After Day 1 action the Maroon and Grey sat in 6th with the 311, but was able to make up some ground on Pacific Lutheran moving up a spot into 5thJared Stone (American Canyon, CA) was the top finisher for Redlands moving up a spot after Day 1 to finish in a tie for 4th with scores of 75-75-75 (+9 - 225).  Senior Kyle Sharp (Laguna Beach, CA) who opened with a 71 to be among the leaders faced a tough test over the next two rounds shooting an 81-79 to put him 13th (+15 – 231).

Joshua Fambro (Taos, NM) had some work to do after shooting an 83 to open the event, but was able to find an 80-77 on Day 2 action to move him up eight spots into a tie for 31st (+24 – 240).  Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) was in the same boat posting an 82 in Round 1, but was able to go 79-79 to end the invite, putting him in that tie for 31st (+24 – 240).

Ben Cowan (Orange, OH) dropped six spots to finish in a tie for 45th after shooting a 78-85-89 (+36 – 252) and Ryan Crema (Surrey, England) was the final scorer for the Bulldogs coming in 49th with an 83-92-81 (+40 – 256).               

Redlands will now set their sights on the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament slated to be played this weekend, February 26-27 at Olivas Links Golf Club (Ventura, CA).
