No. 24 U of R Men's Golf Wins SCIAC Tournament No. 2

The 24th-ranked University of Redlands men's golf team wrapped up the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament No. 2 on Sunday with a first-place total of 599. The team averaged 5.03 on par-fives and led the field with 30 birdies. All five Maroon and Gray golfers placed in the top half of all finishers, as junior Kyle Sharp (Laguna Beach, CA) and sophomore Joshua Fambro (Taos, NM) landed a one-two punch at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon with medalist honors.

Sharp recorded a two-round score of 145, entering the clubhouse with a 75 on day one, before firing off a field-best 70 during Sunday's 18 holes. He impressed with an eagle and led all competitors, averaging 3.95 on par-fours and recorded seven birdies.

Fambro finished in second place, three strokes behind Sharp, signing his scorecard with a 148 (72-76). He shot one-under on par-fives for a 4.88 average. He tied-for-first with 22 pars.

Junior Jared Stone (American Canyon, CA) followed closely with a 36-hole total of 153 (80-73) for a tied-for-fourth place overall. Stone also averaged 4.88 on par-fives.

Additionally, juniors Ryan Crema (Surrey, England) and Connor Tran (Gilroy, CA) each fired off a two-round total of 156 to finish tied-for-seventh. Crema shot even on par-fives and led the field with seven birdies.

As a team, the Maroon and Gray finished 29 strokes ahead of Chapman University and 31 better than Cal Lutheran.

Next, Redlands heads to the three-day SCIAC Championship Tournament, which takes place Sunday, April 25, through Tuesday, April 27, at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.
