Late Push Propels No. 18 Redlands Men’s Golf to Third-Place Showing at SCIAC No. 2

The No. 18 University of Redlands men's golf team took on seven other Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competitors at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena for the second conference tournament of the season on Saturday and Sunday. After completing the opening round with a 297 for fourth place, the Bulldogs remained focused on day two to climb into third with a two-day total of 601 (297-304).

Senior George Galanis (Chicago, IL) paced the team with a tied-for-ninth-place performance by shooting a 36-hole total of 151 (74-77).

All remaining Bulldog competitors completed the tournament within five strokes of each other.

Junior Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) and sophomore Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) followed closely behind with a two-stroke difference to tie for 14th place. Lawson impressed on the second day by shaving off seven strokes from his first round to sign his Sunday scorecard with a 73 for a 153. Cooper also shot a 153 with a first round of 74 and second round of 79.

Sophomore Diego Cortes (Santiago, Chile) and sophomore Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH) sat just one stroke behind their teammates with a 36-hole score of 154. Cortes recorded the best round of the duo by entering the clubhouse on Saturday with a 74.

Sophomore Dylan Merchant (Ellsworth, WI) rounded out the Redlands golfers with a two-day total of 156. He showed signs of improvement, as he shot an 81 on day one and a low 75 on day two.

The Redlands men's golf team competes in the three-day SCIAC Championship Tournament starting on Sunday, April 22. The rounds will take place at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.
