No. 23 Redlands Men's Golf Takes Second at Opening SCIAC Tournament

The No. 23 University of Redlands men's golf team opened the 2016 spring season by hosting the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament No. 1 at the Champions Course of Tukwet Canyon Golf Course in Beaumont.  The Bulldogs held a five-stroke lead through the first 18 holes but relinquished the lead during Sunday's blustery round, resulting in a second-place finish among the eight conference schools with a two-round total of 635. 

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges led the field with 36-hole score of 627, while Cal Lutheran University finished third with a score of 639.

Senior John McCord (Oakland, CA) led the Maroon and Gray with a score of 158 (78-80) to take fifth place in the individual standings.  Overall, he ranked third among the field in par-five scoring, notching a tally of 4.88 for minus one.  He also registered five birdies over the two days.

Freshmen Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) and Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) closely followed at 159, with each recording an opening 18-hole tally of 77.  Lawson fired off four birdies and 19 pars during the tournament, while Stroes hit par on 17 holes.  The dynamic duo tied for eighth overall. 

Sophomore George Galanis (Glencoe, IL) rounded out the Bulldogs' top four with his score of 163, which came off of Sunday's solid performance of 78.  Overall, he tallied 16 pars throughout the two-day event.

Freshman Rowan Foxley (Arlington, WA) and sophomore Joseph Kuehn (Eugene, OR) added to the Maroon and Gray's fire power by posting respective rounds of 165 (81-84) and 171 (85-86).

Redlands heads to the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Classic on Monday, February 22, and Tuesday, February 23, at the Arrowhead Country Club.
