Senior Guard Joey Sponheim Garners SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week Honor for Men's Basketball

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) has announced its weekly award-winners and senior guard Joey Sponheim (Redlands, CA) represented the University of Redlands men's basketball team as the Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Sponheim served as the epicenter of the Bulldogs' offense in a 2-0 weekend at the Lee Fulmer Classic. He led all players in scoring with 28.5 points per game while shooting 52% from the floor and 61% from beyond the arc. In the first contest, he scored 22 points, including 15 in the first half, in an 80-77 win over the University of Saint Katherine. Sponheim knocked down six three-pointers to equal his career-best at an efficient 6-of-9 clip. He then upped his performance the following night with a career-high of 35 points on 10-of-16 shooting while converting five three-pointers to propel Redlands to a 78-64 victory over Pacific Union College.

Sponheim also supplied six rebounds, two assists, and a block in the Bulldogs' undefeated showing.

After a dazzling performance from deep, Sponheim currently sits atop the SCIAC in three-pointers made per game at 3.3. He also ranks sixth in scoring with 19.0 points per game.
