LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Football team ran all over the Leopards of the University of La Verne Saturday afternoon 51-7 on the road as they improve to 4-1, 2-0 SCIAC.

The Maroon and Grey have now won two in a row, are averaging 389.4 yards of offense (205 Rushing | 184.4 Passing) and 33.4 Points Per Game.  Defensively they are allowing just 287.4 Yards of Offense (96 Rushing | 191.4 Passing) and just 20.2 PPG to opponents.

Inside Ortmayer Stadium the Bulldogs poured on the offense with 448 Yards of Total Offense (155 Passing | 293 Rushing), which included five rushing touchdowns, averaged 6.6 Yards Per Play, totaled 26 first downs, and was 8-for-11 on 3rd Down Efficiency.  La Verne found it tough to get any movement against this stingy UR defense totaling just 175 Yards of Total Offense (111 Passing | 64 Rushing), 12 first downs, and 3.2 yards per play.

Defensively, the Bulldogs were ruthless, especially that front seven.  They totaled 59 Tackles (27 Solo | 32 Assisted) led by Jace Tessaro (Modesto, CA) with nine (2 Solo/7 Assisted) and Ryan Place (Alta Loma, CA) with five (1 Solo/4 Assisted), had five sacks for a combined 27 yards lost, two coming from Brandon Serrano (Chino, CA), and the other three from Elijah Valles (Oceanside, CA), Jake Baillie (Woodinville, WA), and Hunter Coplen (Lake Elsinore, CA), added 10 tackles for losses totaling 44 yards, and finished with a forced fumble (Calvin Hyytinen (San Diego, CA)), two interceptions (Valles | André Peeples II (San Diego, CA), and two pass break-ups (Place | Jacob Harrold (Lake Havasu City, AZ)).

Nathan Martinez (Redlands, CA) was 15-of-17 for 155 yards and two touchdowns.  He also ran the ball five times for 21 yards with a long being of 16.  11 different players ran the ball on the afternoon with Andrew Kellstrom (San Bernardino, CA) and Kai Thompson (Murrieta, CA) combining for 16 attempts for 130 yards and three scores.  Myles Herrera (Yucaipa, CA) had another touchdown rushing five times for 37 yards and Dominic Bettini (Arvada, CA) had four attempts for 17 yards and a one-yard score.

Seven different receivers caught a pass with Giovanni Isles (Chino Hills, CA) hauling in four for 54 yards and a touchdown.  Khory Day (Fresno, CA) added three catches for 32 yards and another score.

Vicente Garcia (Fontana, CA) was perfect on the day going 6-for-6 on extra points and converting a long field goal of 40-yards early in the 4th Quarter.  Brendan Marmion (Aliso Viejo, CA) handled kickoffs totaling nine for 438 yards, averaging 48.7 yards per kick.

The Bulldogs put up 14 points in the opening quarter going 75-yards in 9-plays in their opening drive capped off with a Thompson touchdown.  They then capitalized off of the Peeples II interception on their next series going 71-yards in 9-plays, which covered 5:01, which ended in a Thompson 5-yard score.

UR tacked on another seven points in their opening drive of the 2nd Quarter.  After forcing a ULV turnover on downs from the UR 14, the Maroon and Grey went 81-yards in just 8-plays, which included Kellstrom rushing it for 15-yards, Martinez finding Isles twice for 16- and 17-yard receptions, and Kellstrom bringing it home from 5-yards out.

La Verne finally made it on the scoreboard at the 2:49 mark, but they left too much time on the clock as Martinez would put together an 8-play, 75-yard drive.  During the series Tony Williams Jr. (Indio, CA) had a reception for 23-yards and was followed by a Martinez to Day hook-up for 16, a Martinez rush for 16, capped off with Martinez finding Day in the endzone from 13-yards out.

The Redlands defense proved tough in the second half allowing just 17-yards of total offense by the Leopards.  They forced an early turnover on downs giving the Bulldog offense a short field and they used it as Martinez would connect with Isles from eight-yards out that moved the score to 34-7.  ULV on their next series again went for it on 4th Down and again turned it over on downs giving UR another short field.  This time Bettini ended the 9-play drive with a one-yard score, his first of the season.

The next drive for the Leos they mustered only four-yards and turned it over again this time on their own 34.  But this drive Redlands did not find the endzone as Garcia would drill home a 40-yard field goal to put up three points extending the lead to 44-7.

The final points on the afternoon came due to an interception from Valles at the ULV49.  Herrera came in under center for UR and orchestrated a 9-play, 49-yard drive, where he rushed it four times for 33-yards, capped off with him punching it in from two-yards out.

Redlands returns home next Saturday, October 16 for "Take a Kid to the Game Night" when they host Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 7:00pm.
