Seven Bulldog Football Student-Athletes Secure NFF Hampshire Honor Society Membership

It was recently announced that seven University of Redlands football student-athletes became members of the 2020 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society by exceeding the minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 in their final year of eligibility as significant contributors or starters for the team. 

Senior offensive linemen Brandyn Alvarez (Grand Terrace, CA) and Joey Caffaro (Jackson Hole, WY), senior quarterback Eric Kump (Huntington Beach, CA), senior wide receivers David Molina (Laguna Hills, CA), and Mitchell Nickovich (Mission Viejo, CA) senior defensive back Jake Walters (Tehachapi, CA) and senior tight end Blake Roy (Camas, WA) represent the Bulldogs among the prestigious list.  They each contributed to the team's successful campaign that produced a nine-win season for the first time since 1978 and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the ninth appearance in program history. They also helped Redlands reset the program scoring record for a single season with 445 points.

A total of 1,432 football players from 364 colleges and universities throughout the country joined the Honor Society in its 14th year.

Alvarez and Caffaro bolstered the offensive line with tenacity and strength. They helped the squad to convert 45% of its third downs. Alvarez will celebrate commencement with a degree in History while Caffaro will graduate with a degree in Biology. Caffaro was also named to the All-SCIAC squad earlier in this season.

Kump completed his second season with the Bulldogs by registering 443 passing yards and 37 completions with his longest coming at 62 yards. This Business Administration major also owns a 54.4% completion percentage and registered four touchdowns, including one against the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Wide receivers Molina and Nikovich combined for 38 receptions and three touchdowns this season. Both Business Administration majors, Molina has racked up 171 yards with his longest being 24, while Nikovich totaled 253 yards with a long of 39 this year.

Walters competed in five games this season for a total of 15 games over the four years. This Business Administration major racked up nine tackles, three assists, and one tackle for a loss over his career.

Finally, Roy played in 10 games in his final season for a grand total of 37 games. He tallied 27 receptions for 253 yards and five touchdowns. He wraps up this year with multiple athletic and academic awards including being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, D3football.com All-West Region team, and All-SCIAC squad. He looks forward to graduating with a degree in Business Administration.
