Senior Jeff Hector and Junior Khory Day Selected as SCIAC Athletes of the Week

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) office announced its weekly awards and two members of the University of Redlands football team were selected. For the second time this season and third time in his career, senior defensive back Jeff Hector (Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA) has been named the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, while junior wide receiver Khory Day (Fresno, CA) earned his first Specialist of the Week honor.

Hector shut down the Leopard defense with two interceptions, both for touchdowns in a 65-7 victory over the University of La Verne last Saturday. He accumulated a total of 107 yards on his interception returns, including a long of 58. He also added two tackles and a pass breakup. Hector sits among the top in the nation in multiple categories including, tied for sixth with five interceptions, fifth with 111 total interception return yards, and second with two interception returns for touchdowns. Overall, Hector leads the Bulldogs in solo tackles (19) and pass breakups (9). He is also tied for first on the team with two forced fumbles

Day returned two punts for a total of 85 yards in the win against the Leopards. He averaged 42.5 yards per return and also ran one back for a 65-yard touchdown. Day currently sits third on the team with 455 all-purpose yards with an average of 65.0 per game. For the season, he has returned five kick returns for 109 yards and a 21.8 average, while returning 11 punt returns for 215 yards and a 19.5 average per game. Day's longest kick return was 35 yards and his longest punt return was Saturday's 65-yarder for a touchdown.
