Following this weekend's 38-17 win over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges to open Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play, the University of Redlands football team continues to climb in the rankings, now tabbed No. 15 on D3football.com and No. 17 on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top-25 polls. With the recent victory, Redlands now owns a 4-0 start to the season for the first time since 1993.

Despite struggling with penalties, the Bulldogs overcame the setbacks to prevail with over 500 yards of total offense and three interceptions last weekend.

First-year running back Mason Carvalho (Menifee, CA) forced his way through traffic for 99 of Redlands' 188-rushing yards while the Maroon and Gray defense held the Sagehens to just 42 yards on the ground.

Junior quarterback Nathan Martinez (Redlands, CA) led the attack through the air with 320 yards. Senior tight end Blake Roy (Camas, WA) served as his main target with six catches including two touchdown receptions. Junior wide receiver Noah McFadden (Puyallup, WA) hauled in four catches, for a team-leading 65-yards and one touchdown.

Senior defensive back Chad Virgil (Menifee, CA) led the defense with eight tackles including four solo tackles. He also hauled in a huge interception that eventually led to a Bulldog touchdown.

On special teams, senior kicker Alex Raya (Jamul, CA) connected on a 48-yard field goal and was perfect on extra points. He also averaged 64 yards per kickoff and 50 yards per punt with his farthest at 69 yards.

Redlands (4-0, 1-0) heads to Orange on Saturday, October 12, at 7 p.m. for a huge SCIAC showdown against Chapman.
