The University of Redlands baseball team welcomed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges back to The Yard to finish their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game from February 28 that was halted in the bottom of the 10th before taking the Stags on in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. Redlands walked off the first game, 9-8 before cruising to a dominating 14-1 win in the second game.

On February 28, the Bulldogs put up eight runs on 12 hits through nearly 10 complete innings. Junior right fielder Cal Bridges (Fremont, CA) had quite the afternoon at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two RBI while first-year second baseman Jonah Advincula (Santa Clara, CA) knocked two hits for three RBI.

In the 11th inning this morning, Bridges moved from right field to pitcher and went 1, 2, 3 including a K. His team picked him up in the bottom of that inning as senior center fielder Joey Wozniak (San Diego, CA) reached base on a Stag miscue. After two walks that loaded the bases, Redlands sent a roller to second base that the Stags attempted to turn two but overthrew, allowing Wozniak to come home and walk off with a 9-8 win.

In game two, Redlands scored early and often, putting up at least one run in every inning except the fifth and seventh.

Advincula started the game off with a statement on the basepaths as he drew a walk and subsequently stole second and third. He came home on a CMS error to go up 1-0.

Sophomore designated hitter Matthew Brumbaugh (Chula Vista, CA) led off the bottom of the second with a double to left-center. After an out, first-year center fielder Peyton Walsh (Santa Ana, CA) traded places with Brumbaugh for an RBI double.

The Bulldogs tacked on six more runs over the next 2.2 innings for a 9-0 lead after four. A bright spot in the third was Bridges sending a screaming double down the left-field line for the sixth run. In addition, senior third baseman Anthony Acosta (Simi Valley, CA) knocked an RBI single in the fourth.

The starting battery of sophomore pitcher Andrew Rueter (San Diego, CA) and sophomore catcher Sammy Diaz (Palm Desert, CA) was cruising through the Stag lineup with two strikeouts, while Diaz caught two runners stealing for some nice plays on defense.

Advincula repeated his first innings efforts in the sixth as well, this time getting on base with a single and then stealing second and third base. The Bulldogs added three more runs after that on a CMS error and base hits from Brumbaugh and senior left fielder Trevor Smith (Coronado, CA) for a 12-0 advantage after six.

Although CMS jumped on the board in the top of the seventh with a single run, Redlands matched the run plus one more in the bottom of the eighth. With two on and two outs, Advincula drove a triple off the right-center wall for two RBI and ultimately a 14-1 win.

Advincula impressed on a 3-for-4 clip with three RBI and three runs. He knocked a triple while also swiping four bags. Rueter was credited with the win while junior closer Justin Yang (Fountain Valley, CA) earned the save.

The Bulldogs (10-7, 4-2 SCIAC) takes on the University of Rochester (NY) next Saturday, March 14, for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
