The University of Redlands baseball team hit the road on Friday afternoon to take on the Tigers of Occidental College in the opening game of the final Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) series of the regular season. Despite an even score through five innings, the Bulldogs struggled to counter the Tiger offense and suffered a 1-5 loss.

Although senior shortstop Aaron Singh (Anaheim, CA) led off with a double to begin the game, Redlands could not capitalize, as the Tigers retired three of the next four batters to escape the frame unscathed.

After Oxy pushed a run across in the bottom of the first, the Bulldogs tied it up in the top of the third when junior second baseman Andrew Renteria (Van Nuys, CA) registered a sacrifice fly to plate senior catcher Bart In den Kleef (Oosterhout, Netherlands).

However, Occidental gained momentum and extended the lead to four runs to take the first game of the series, 5-1.

Singh and sophomore right fielder Cal Bridges (Fremont, CA) each went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Redlands (14-23-1, 8-14 SCIAC) returns home to complete the series against Occidental with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday, May 4. Prior to the first pitch, the Bulldogs will celebrate Senior Day.
