The University of Redlands men's and women's cross country teams competed at the UCR Highlander Invitational this morning. Both teams did extremely well amongst schools from all divisions. The men's team took 8th out of 21 teams while the women placed 9th out of 23 teams.

For the fourth time in a row, junior Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) paced the Bulldogs as the top runner, finishing in 8th place out of 234 runners. Cargile used a 4:56.4 average mile time to improve his mark with a 24:33.5 run. With this record-breaking performance, Cargile has reset Redlands fastest 8k time by nearly 17 seconds which was previously set in 1983.

First-year runners Enrique Verschoor (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Rogelio Salcido (Beaumont, CA) both had career-best 8k times amongst the vast competition. Verschoor stopped the clock at 25:24.3 for 48th place overall. Salcido crossed the finish line in 26:00.7, taking the 76th spot.

On the women's side, senior Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) served as Redlands' top finisher for 20th place overall. She completed the 6k with an average mile of 5:50.2 and 21:45.7 final time.

Redlands women's cross country followed the record-breaking trend as sophomore Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) and senior Carly Veasy (Camas, WA) crossed the finish line with career-best 6k times. Glenn stopped the clock in 22:41.4-minutes and 57th place while Veasy clocked a 22:59.2 and 72nd place.

Redlands prepares to take on familiar foes at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Saturday, November 2, at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The first race is slated for 8:30 a.m.
