U of R Cross Country Showcases Talent at UCR Invitational

The University of Redlands men's and women's cross country teams competed at the high-caliber UCR Invitational on Saturday morning. While taking on teams from all divisions, the men earned a 16th-place finish in the 8k invitational race and took seventh overall in the 8k open run. The women also took seventh overall in the 5k open event.

In the 8k invitational, junior Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) claimed the top time for the Bulldogs by crossing the finish line in 24:59.54 for 29th place overall during his season debut. First-years Enrique Verschoor (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Rogelio Salcido (Beaumont, CA), and sophomore Miguel Fausto (Whittier, CA) paced each other well and crossed the line in close succession. Verschoor ran the fastest of the bunch with a 124th-place finish in 26:42.47. Salcido stopped the clock in 26:55.19, while Fausto posted a time of 26:57.39. In addition, junior Quentin Olive-Larson (Fort Collins, CO) and first-year Brandon Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) completed the race with times of 27:35.47 and 27:25.47, respectively.

In the men's 8k open race, sophomore Joey Roberts (San Diego, CA) served as the top finisher for the Maroon and Gray with a time of 28:49.92 in 94th place. Junior Matthew Casey (Highland Park, IL) closely followed, as he stopped the clock in 28:58.73 for 96th place. Sophomore Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI) registered a time of 29:25.85, while first-year Martin Cruz-Martinez (Bishop, CA) ran a 30:14.28. Sophomore Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA) rounded out the Maroon and Gray competitors with a time of 30:56.34.

In the women's 5k open race, senior Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) began her season as the top finisher for the Maroon and Gray with a time of 18:39.62 in 19th place. Sophomore Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, CA) earned 53rd place with a quality time of 19:25.11 and was followed by senior Carly Veasy (Camas, WA), who completed the race in 19:33.57 for 63rd. Sophomore Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) crossed the line in 19:47.74, while first-year Sheriane Greene (Grass Valley, CA) took 89th with a time of 20:02.26. Finishing within 10 spots of each other, seniors Sarah Shipway (Lafayette, CA) and Karli Stichter (Tustin, CA) ran times of 20:33.04 and 20:33.04, respectively, while first-year Jane Whitticar (Bend, OR) earned a time of 20:40.94.

Redlands travels to Falcon Heights, MN, in two weeks for the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, September 28, at 7:30 a.m.
